Hi Everyone! So recently I was in London primarily for doing dissertation research for my History Masters, this involved me visiting a few archives and looking at artifacts which was really interesting. However, as a reward for getting our work done, me and my friend both decided that we would squeeze in a day trip to Paris!
Paris is a city that I’ve been wanting to visit for agess but never really had the opportunity to do so. So, I was super excited to finally visit this beautiful city that I’ve seen countless times on various Disney and other movies. We were going to Paris just for the day so made sure that we had a rough plan of what we wanted to see/ do whilst we were there.
We had an early start to the day and arrived in St Pancras, London at 6 am to give us time to check in and go through security for the Eurostar. It felt strange to go through security in a station! The Eurostar itself was super classy and comfortable with around 25 + carriages it was much longer than I had imagined. I was also surprised to learn that it only takes 20 minutes in the channel tunnel to travel from England into France.
Upon arriving in Paris Garde De Nord Train Station we made our way onto one of the Tour Buses at the entrance of the Station. We paid 35 Euros each for our ticket *which sounds steep but we were able to jump on and off the bus all day*. I’d highly recommend the tour bus as a way to see Paris as not only did it take us to each of the main sites/ attractions but it also went down some quaint Parisian backstreets that really gave you a feel for what its like to be a local in Paris.
Of course one of the main highlights of the bus tour was travelling up the Champs Elysees and seeing the Arc De Triomphe coming closer and closer into view. The traffic is crazy on the Champs Elysees * as expected* so this did take up a good 20 minutes- half an hour. We passed the Louvre but didn’t manage to have enough time to get off and see it properly, something that I hope to do next time I visit!
Finally, we arrived at the Eiffel Tower and being the typical tourists that we are, we popped into a local cafe and bought baguettes filled with ham and sweet cakes and ate them under the Tower. It was fab. Seeing Notre Dame was one of the highlights of the trip, especially hearing the bells, it really felt like being in a Disney Movie!
We then went to a nearby souvenir shop * yes we got mega ripped off* to buy some magnets and postcards to bring home. Thankfully we had visited Notre Dame prior to shopping as the weather turned and we got caught up in a downpour of rain which wouldn’t have made visiting it as pleasant as it had been.
We finished off the trip by going for dinner in a lovely little restaurant that was close to the station. I had spaghetti with pesto sauce and it was absolutely delicious the sauce was clearly homemade because it was lovely and creamy yet not too heavy.
And it wouldn’t be a trip to Paris if we didn’t pick up some macaroons on the way to the train would it? As we expected we were sleepy and content on the Eurostar back to London filled with lots of memories of our whirlwind day.
I hope that you enjoyed reading about my time in Paris! I truly fell in love with the City and can’t wait to go back one day. Leave me a comment below and be sure to follow the blog!
