Summer Reading List!

summer reading 2

Hi Everyone! I’m going on my summer holiday (finallllyyy!!!) next Monday so in true holiday prepping style I thought that I’d buy a few books to keep me occupied when I’m away.

Into the Water:- Paula Hawkins

I will admit that I’ve already read this book oops.  If you’ve been a long time reader of my blog then you might remember that last summer I read the thriller the Girl on the Train.  I think I ended up reading the book in about four days! So, naturally when Hawkins latest thriller hit the shelves I knew that I wanted to read it.  Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy into the water nearly as much as the Girl on the Train.  For me, personally, it had too many different characters and because of university exams I didn’t read it consistently. I might give it another go though as the summer goes on to give it a more accurate review.

Thirteen Reasons Why

Unlike Into the Water, I’ve so far managed to save this novel AND I’ve not watched the Netflix series yet either so go me. The novel is based upon a girl who commits suicide but leaves behind 13 reasons why she did it. I’ve tried to block out peoples opinions on the book because I want to read it for myself.

Summer Days and Summer Nights

Completely different in genre to the other two books, this book appealed to me right away because of its fun Fab ice lolly cover.  The book is made up of 12 short stories around the theme of falling in love. A perfect easy summer read!

I hope that you enjoyed this post! I’ll report back my thoughts on the books in due course.  Meanwhile, feel free to leave me a comment below on any book suggestions you might have and if your not already follow my blog.  It means a lot 🙂

La Roche Posay Skincare Update/ Review!

LA Roche Posay products

As you’ll know if you read this blog post here lately my skincare regime has consisted of more and more La Roche Posay products.  My skin is by no means transformed in the little over a month that I’ve used these products but it is definitely less angry and red than before.  I thought that today would serve as a perfect time to give you my thoughts on each of the products seen as I have tested them out for quite a while now

la roche posay 4*Effaclar Foaming Gel*

This product is most definitely the oldest La Roche Posay product that I’ve used.  It always leaves my skin feeling thoroughly cleansed and fresh.  What’s great about it is that its soap free so in no way irritates the skin.  Its my go to cleansing facial wash.

la roche posay 2

*Rosaliac AR Intense*

I’ve been using this product for a month now to help combat the redness/ acne rosacea around mostly my nose area. I’ve definitely seen good results from using this for the past month, I like how its a serum and how hygienic the packaging is because its a pump therefore its easy to apply.  Because I’ve had redness problems for some time now I knew that I wouldn’t see drastic improvements so quickly but I’m intending on keeping it in my skincare regime for the foreseeable future.

la roche posay 5

*Effaclar Imperfection Corrector*

I will admit that I bought this originally because I read the box wrong and thought that it was a moisturiser *oopps!*. However, aside from that the product is aimed at acne prone skin so its a cream used to reduce the appearance of spots.  I haven’t used this product for too long so watch this space for an individual review coming soon!

la roche posay 3

*La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water*

I’m intending on doing a Summer Must Have post soon filled with products and things that I think are good for this time of the year and this product is definitely going to make an appearance in it. The thermal spring water is perfect if your skin is needing some instant hydration and cooling down perfect on hot sunny days.

Hope you guys enjoyed reading this post! Although my skin isn’t transformed and I’ve developed a few spots around my chin *urgh* La Roche Posay really agrees with my skin and I know its a brand that I can trust.

Make Up Declutter!

Hi Everyone! Earlier this week, I decided that I wanted to clear out my makeup collection and downsize the space on top of my chest of drawers.  Since finishing uni I want my room to be more minimalistic and so that I can easily find things when I need them.

makeup collection june

I used to have two plastic makeup storage containers however, I decided that all I really needed was the one.  I went through and removed products that had seen better days and ones that I didn’t use.  So now, my set of makeup drawers consist of the lower drawer filled with lip liners and lip products, the upper drawer being filled with blushers and highlighters and the top a place for my foundation, bronzer and most worn lipsticks to stay.makeup172

( Soap and Glory Blusher, Benefit High Beam Highlighter and Blush, Topshop Glow, YSL Touche Clat Primer, Rimmel Liquid Blush, Rimmel Blush and Contour Palette)

lipsticks june

( NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams in Abu Dhabi and Cairo, Rimmel Lip Liner in East End Snob, Barry M Lip glosses, Clinique Nude Lip pop, Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Liner)

( Lipsticks from left to right:- MAC Please Me, MAC Syrup, MAC Faux, (MAC Yash should be here), Kiko Bright Orange, Loreal JLO, YSL Rouge Volupte Shine)

I’ve also decided to start to store my eye products in a tub so that they’re easier to access and that the eyeliners won’t get mixed up with the lip liners. I also like to keep my favourite mascara here as well *review coming ASAP* At the side of the tub I keep my eyeshadow palettes which include those from Zoeva, Tanya Burr and Soap and Glory.  My Zoeva Blush palette also stays here. makeup179

I hope you liked seeing my updated makeup collection/ declutter! It feels great to finally have my collection downsized and the way I want it.  If your not following my blog already be sure to do so and leave me a comment down below.

My Graduation Ball!

Grad Ball.jpg

Hi Everyone! The last few days have been insane and I’m slowly coming down to earth from being on Cloud 9.  Although I still don’t have my degree results *scary stuff * we celebrated our graduation ball on Tuesday night and it was one of the best nights EVERR!!

It was so lovely to see all my uni friends in the one room without it being in a lecture room for 50 minutes.  Now that the ball is over it feels bitter sweet to be leaving uni and going our own separate paths but it was lovely to round up 4 years with a big party!

I decided to opt for a black dress with gold details on the chest.  For my makeup I got it done professionally and the girl who did it was insanely talented and transformed me into a glam princess! I also got my hair done by a friend of the family and she made it a half up half down style with my hair being backcombed to give it lots of volume.

It genuinely was one of the best nights of my life and I’m so grateful to have been given the opportunity to go to uni.  Next stop graduation!

Drugstore Haul!

Its been a good while since I’ve did a drugstore haul, so I thought that I would share with you all some of the things that I’ve recently bought from Boots.

*Real Techniques Eye Sponges*

As you can see clearly I’ve already used my eye sponges so they look a tad grubby. The sponges are basically miniature versions of the RT original sponge which are specifically created for the under eye area.  The sponges aside from being really cute are fab for blending concealer under the eye and other small areas that need blending.

*L’Oréal Pure Clay Detox Wash*

I won’t lie, I originally bought this wash mistaking it for the detox clay mask which I’ve heard good things about.   The product is a charcoal facial wash that detoxifies the skin and removes makeup residue.  With only using this product for a few times I think I like it, my pores appear smaller and my skin feels clean and fresh. I’m still intending to buy the mask!

*Soap and Glory Scrub ‘Em and Leave ‘Em*

Because I have my graduation ball coming up I want my legs and arms to feel soft so exfoliating is an important step to achieve this and I love this scrub from Soap and Glory.  The scrub has small beads in it and it smells of vanilla and musk.  It feels like a luxurious product to use and I’d highly recommend it.

*L’Oréal Mega Volume Miss Baby Roll Mascara*

On the hunt for a new mascara I found this mascara advertised everywhere.  The wand of this mascara is really cool it looks a bit like a helter-skelter (lol)  and because its really dense it gives amazing length.  I wouldn’t say that this mascara is fab for volume however, you can always add more coats to build up the volume.

So that’s my mini drugstore haul! Let me know what you’ve been loving lately in the comments and be sure to follow my blog if your not already

Glowy Summer Makeup Look

So on Saturday at the YSL makeup masterclass, we re-created Suzie’s pretty glowing Summer makeup.  I was quite surprised by just how little foundation was required to create the look and although it looks like a lot of products the look can be achieved fairly quickly and makes the skin look really healthy perfect for summer. The perfect holiday look.

I’ve since attempted to recreate the look using mostly drugstore makeup products to give a more affordable alternative.

*Makeup Used*

YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

Collection Primed and Ready Correct and Concealer

Rimmel Stay Blushed 001 Pop of Pink

Topshop Glow

Barry M Brow Kit

Bourjois Liner Feutre Felt Tip Eyeliner

Maybelline the Falsies Push Up Angel Mascara

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine

One of the main tips that I discovered in the masterclass was to use a flat foundation brush to apply most of the base products when wanting to achieve a dewy finish.

I’d say that the star product of this look is the Touche Eclat Blur Primer which helps to maximisethe skins radiance.  The product is clear but has almost like glitter pigments through it so when applying it as a base for the rest of the makeup, it will help it to create that inner glow from the skin.

Next, we applied a small pump of foundation and using the same flat foundation brush gently patted that into the skin, at this stage we were told not to worry if some imperfections were still coming through because using colour correctors would fix this.  I’ve opted to use the Collection Correct and Conceal mini palette.  Use the green shade to conceal redness and lilac to disguise yellow tones so this is good under the eyes.  Blend this in using the brush.

In keeping with the glowing look, we used a liquid blush and a cream highlighter.  Apply a small dot of blush to the apples of the cheeks and using the same tapping motion of the brush blend into the skin to prevent harsh lines and the blush looking round. *not a good look*.  I’ve picked the Topshop glow for highlighter because it looks amazing on cheek bones and instantly makes your skin look super fresh.

If your pale, like me, I would then recommend using some bronzer on the temples to help warm up the face.  I like to use the Bourjois Maxi Delight Bronzer it helps to achieve that sunkissed look.

We then filled in our eyebrows, I like to use the Barry M Shape and Define Eyekit before lining my eyes with Bourjois Paris felt pen and applying a coating of mascara to the lashes.  To round up the whole look we used the same lipstick Suzie was wearing which was YSL Rouge Volupte Shine a soft coral shade, again perfect for summer.

So there you have it! A step by step guide of how to achieve the summer look Suzie’s been rocking over the past couple of weeks.  Be sure to leave me a comment below and follow if your not already

Meeting Hello October with YSL!

Hello October 17

Hi Everyone! Yesterday I got to meet one of my favourite beauty/ You tuber’s Suzie aka Hello October.  When I heard she was coming to Glasgow in collaboration with YSL it was the best news I’d heard in a long time.  I wont lie though, for the first couple of minutes the makeup tutorial was rather awkward especially when told to remove my face of makeup in the middle of Debenhams.  But, I learnt new tips for applying makeup and was introduced to the Touche Eclat blur primer, a glittery little primer that helps to give your makeup a good base and a dewy finish.

Suzie is as much a babe in real life as she is online and she had the most unbelievable tan so jealous.  Typical Scottish weather after it being lovely and hot for the past week yesterday was teeming with rain which made my hair go all flat and frizzy, but, I still managed to get some pics with Suzie.

Leaving, I got given the ultimate YSL goodie bag filled with a gorgeous makeup bag, mini black opium perfume, mini touche éclat blur primer (yass) and I picked up the lipstick they used on me, Rougue Volupte shine 9 , a peachy shade perfect for summer.

It was a fab day and the first ever proper blogger/ makeup event I’ve ever been to. Leave me a comment below and if your new be sure to follow

I’m Back! I’ve Finished Uni!

im back.PNG

Hi Everyone!  I hope you are all well! Long time no see, as you’ve (hopefully) noticed I’ve been absent from my blog for quite some time now roughly about a month? That’s because I’ve been sitting my 4 final university exams which I’m glad to say are finally over meaning that I’ve finished my Honours History Degree! Todays felt quite strange not having to study and its starting to hit me that I should start to think about what I want to do with my life (lol).

But…. with my degree done and studying no longer consuming all my time I’m back and I have big plans for this space.  Hopefully more consistent posts, covering more areas and a fresh new look! So if your not already following my blog please do so to not miss out on my future posts 🙂

It feels good to be back!

Easter Nest Cupcakes

Easter Cupcakes 2

Hi Everyone! Happy Easter Weekend! This afternoon I managed to make some time amidst studying hell to bake some Easter nest Cupcakes.  I was inspired by the YouTube video that Zoella and Mark Ferris did a few weeks ago in which they baked these chocolate Easter Cupcakes.  They looked so delicious that I decided to give it a go myself. If you fancy watching the video its linked here

4oz of self raising flour

4oz of caster sugar

4oz of butter

2 eggs

1/2 tsp of baking powder

4 tbsp. of cocoa powder

12 small paper cases

12 large paper cases

Chocolate frosting and mini eggs to decorate

The recipe that I followed was Mary Berry’s for her classic cupcake recipe.

Step 1)  Mix the 4 tbsp. of cocoa powder with 4 tbsp. of warm water

Step 2) In a large separate bowl, mix together all the cake ingredients together until it forms a smooth glossy batter.

Step 3) Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and line cupcake cases and fill the cases with the batter.

Step 4) Whilst the cakes are baking in the oven for the next 15-20 minutes, melt a bowl of chocolate over hot water.  Crush a packet of shreddies or cornflakes before adding them into the bowl of melted chocolate.

Step 5) Fill small cases with the melted shreddies and add a mini egg.  These will set in the fridge and form to be mini nests.

Step 6) Once the cakes are out of the oven and have cooled, begin to ice the cakes with the chocolate frosting.

Step 7) Take the mini Easter nests out of the fridge and place them on top of the icing.

Step 8) You now have Easter nests!

I hope you guys enjoyed this baking post.  I can confirm that the cupcakes are really delicious! If your new, please follow my blog and leave me a comment down below! 🙂

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation.jpg

Hi Everyone! I’ve been meaning to do a review of the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation for a while now, so as I was reaching for it this morning I decided to finally get round to writing this post.

If your not familiar, Bourjois re-launched their Healthy Mix Foundation at the beginning of this year, complete with slightly new packaging for 2017.  Its available in Boots and Superdrug for £9.99 and in my opinion is one of the best drugstore foundations on the market.

I’ve always loved this foundation as I feel it really makes the skin look fresh and awake which is due to the Vitamin Mix of C, E and B5.  I’d say that it gives a good medium coverage and it isn’t a matte foundation so your skin is left looking quite dewy, and as the name would suggest healthy.

I find this foundation blends really well and doesn’t tend to cake at areas of dryness on the face something that I’ve had problems with other foundations doing so.  You’ll be glad to know that the re- launch has retained the scent of peaches *yay* and the bottle now has a square top and pump. The foundation claims to last for up to 16hrs but I haven’t as of yet put that to the test.  However, during my 12 hr days I have noticed that at the end of the day the foundation doesn’t look too bad!

I hope you liked this review, be sure to leave me a comment and follow my blog for future posts
